Vortrag ML2R

The opening event of the Competence Center Machine Learning Rhine-Ruhr (ML2R) took place on 23 January 2019 at the Logistics Campus in Dortmund. Katrin Berkler from Fraunhofer IAIS moderated the event.

Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, at her welcoming address at the opening of the event.

A greeting message also comes from Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Lukas from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Prof. Dr. Katharina Morik, Professor of Computer Science at the Technical University of Dortmund, is spokeswoman for ML2R and gives an insight into one of her main research areas: machine learning with limited resources.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Wrobel is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bonn and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS. Together with Prof. Morik, he is the spokesman of the ML2R.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael ten Hompel, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, will host the kick-off event.

Prof. Dr. Michèle Sebag came from France for a scientific guest lecture. She does research at the Laboratoire de Recherche en Informatique, Université Paris-Sud.

Christian Bauckhage moderated the impulse lectures in which companies presented successfully implemented projects of machine learning.

Dr. Christian Bockermann, Douglas Informatik & Service GmbH, gives an example for the use of Big Data for the analysis of customer needs.

Prof. Dr. Nicole Krautkrämer-Merkt, EmotionsRadar GmbH, explains how machine learning helps to analyse emotions in social media contributions.

Dr. Dominic Siedhoff, T-Systems International GmbH, uses Machine Learning and Big Data to make train forecasts more reliable for Deutsche Bahn.

Dr. Simon Fischer, Zalando Payments GmbH, explains how the analysis of payment preferences helps to better respond to customer needs.

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Loitz, PricewaterhouseCoopers GmbH, explains how auditors use machine learning for benchmarking.
